This is an index of obituaries from Omaha, Nebraska area newspapers compiled by volunteers of the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society (GOGS).
We are converting this information,
currently accessable on our
old website, Multiple volunteers have been working on this project for over two years. There were more than 400,000 entires when we began this project.
As of September 8, 2024, 358,690 entries have been processed, making this project 89% complete. Each entry is being seperated into identified columns in order to make the information transferable.
Below you can access the entries that have been processed. As with any project of this kind, there are bound to be errors. If you would like to submit a correction or addition, please do so using
this form.
The Contents
This index includes obituaries, death notices, cards of thanks, and other articles regarding deaths from Omaha, Nebraska area newspapers.
Please note-the absence of a name on this list does NOT mean there is not an obituary in an Omaha area newspaper. When originally compiled, only individuals from Omaha (and surrounding area) were included and many were left out. The current vision for this index is to include all obituaries printed in Omaha area newspapers. We welcome submissions of corrections or additions via
this form.
Errors
This collection indexes items as they were published, errors included. This may include misspelled names, inaccurate spouse information, incorrect burial locations, etc. Corrections to the data may be included in the “Notes” column.
The Files
The index is presented in PDF files seperated by the first letter of the subjects last name. Each letter in the alphabet will have two files, one sorted alphabetically by surname, the other sorted by date.
