Local ResourcesThe Omaha Public Library is an excellent source of materials for genealogists. OPL has numerous online databases (some accessible only with a library card) and digitized collections. The genealogy collection includes an obituary newspaper card file, early Omaha births and deaths, and Douglas County marriages on microfilm. Requests for copies are accepted.
The Douglas County Health Department has records for births and deaths in Douglas County. State-wide registration did not begin until 1904, although Douglas County has some earlier records (see Omaha Public Library).
The County Clerk's Office has marriage records from 1856 to present. An online index contains current (>1988) marriages. Directions for requests for copies are contained on the website.
State-wide registration of divorces began in 1909. The Clerk of the District Court has copies which can be requested.
The Probate Division of the County Court handles probate records and estates, as well as guardianships and conservancies.
Nebraska DHHS Office of Vital Records has birth and death records from 1904, and marriage and divorce records from 1909.
